Amazon's founder and chief executive, billionaire Jeff Bezos and his wife, McKenzie Bezos, announced divorce after a 25-year marriage without giving any reason, making their divorce story the biggest separation in history. Great question. Unfortunately, I have never came across statistics like these (I imagine nobody wants to share their personal decisions like that).  When I worked in consulting, it was incredibly difficult on my marriage. On good days, I worked 10–12 hours/day. On bad I have worked over 20. I traveled M-Th (sometimes Friday). This was the main driver for me leaving consulting. I barely had a relationship with my wife, and we were trying to start a family.  If you are considering going into consulting, but are afraid of the impact it may have on your marriage, I would strongly advise you to talk to current/former consultants about their strategies to maintain a healthy marriage. And, Of course, be transparent with your spouse.  Consulting did wonders for my career: it pushed me ahead of my peers in my chosen industry (tech) and I could not be happier about how everything worked out. I learned incredible skills I would not have learned elsewhere and was involved in helping top tech companies create and implement industry-changing technology. I worked with c-suite execs and helped re-define their business. Opportunities like that don't come often, which is why people put up with the bad to gain the good.  At the end of the day, if you choose a career in consulting itnwill demand your primary attention and energy. Most people stay in for 2 years, gain the experience they need, and move back to industry. Often times clients will recruit consultants and you could end up with a job offer from a client.  I wrote an article that helps shed light on what a typical day looks like for a consultant “A Day In The Life Of A Consultant”
