Australian police have launched a criminal investigation into a wide range of coronavirus associated with Carnival Corp's Ruby Princess, with the number of confirmed cases among passengers in New South Wales exceeding 340.
According to an investigation, Australia has confirmed and approached nearly 6,000 cases in total, and a number of them are later released. About a quarter of the country's coronavirus COVID-19 Cdeaths are related to the Ruby Princess.
In mid-March, investigators were looking for more information if any breach of the law allowed 2,700 passengers on the plane to Sydney.
New South Wales Police Commissioner Mike Fuller said at a press conference on Sunday that there was "a discrepancy between the information provided by Carnival and the federal and state governments' laws. When the coronavirus was launched, it was supposed to protect Australians from the crew. "
"The only way to get an end to violating our national biosecurity laws and state laws is through a criminal investigation," he said.
The Australian festival that runs the ship did not immediately respond to a request for comment. However, a spokeswoman for the Guardian said in a statement: "In addition to voluntary participation in the investigation, Carnival Australia will now respond strongly to the full disclosure and the demand for their status.
According to local health authorities, all passengers were "advised to stay 14 days after landing," but there had been "possible secondary transmission transmissions" related to the vessel since Friday.
Investigators continue to investigate as more than 1,000 crewmen have been stationed at Port Kembla in Sydney for at least 10 days. About 200 sailors were unwell, the Guardian newspaper reported. Some are seeking medical treatment.
